Teddy Bears’ Picnic

Subject - This collection of illustrations are from the book Elm and Willow’s Adventures at Rippon Lea: The Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Written by Matthew Chester, it is a gentle tale of friendship, teamwork and adventure. My intention with the illustrations is to showcase the beauty of Rippon Lea Estate while complimenting and enhancing the written story.

The rhythms of life at the Rippon Lea Estate echo softly through each illustration, featuring the beauty and charm of its waterways, gently sloping lawns, vibrant plant life and vast array of animal life, many of which appear as characters in the book.

Style - The illustrations are detailed, expressive, lively and colourful making them interesting and engaging for children.

Colour palette - The colours used are representational of the beautiful Rippon Lea Estate. Fresh, vibrant greens, rich natural tones and playful pastel colours enhance the nostalgic storybook quality of the illustrations.
